Since the boxing club opened its doors more than 50 years ago, generations of boxers have passed through its doors. Over recent years, St Paul’s Church (where the club has its base) has shown signs of decline so a group of local businessmen have got together to try to help, as a way of saying thank you for what Penarth Amateur Boxing Club means to them and the local area.

Neil Munn who manages the club commended the support saying, “We’ve had some terrific support from several local businesses. All of us here at Penarth ABC really apprciate the help they’re giving us. It does make a difference.”

Craig Webber, who used the club as a youngster and has fond memories would like to see the club continue. He has kindly donated time and money for essential repairs on the roof without which the club could not open its doors. Lecs Ltd, a carpentry and shopfitting company, has donated sports equipment as a thank you to the club for giving the children of the area the opportunity to take part in a sport which gives them discipline, confidence and, hopefully, will help them choose a positive path in life.

Alan Meek of Smoke Control Services has a number of his employees using the gym in the evening training sessions. Alan said, “I have encouraged a number of our employees to come along to the White Collar training sessions and can honestly say it’s made a massive difference to their confidence and self-esteem – they have bonded as a team and this has transferred into the work place.”

Neil Munn said, "We could do with more support – we’re doing great work here with local youngsters but sometimes it feels like an uphill struggle. I really appreciate all the help we’ve had from these companies but we really dould do with more. Every little bit helps.” If you would like to sponsor Penarth ABC or feel you can help or support the club in some way, please get in touch.
