Penarth boxer Pring successfully defends Welsh title PENARTH ABC boxer Kieron Pring successfully defended his Welsh title last week, in what coach Neil Munn described as 'an excellent display of boxing'. Pring defeated Carmarthen fighter Luka Dragona over three rounds to preserve his Welsh crown. The 14-year-old is now set to defend his British title in Cardiff next month. Neil said: "Dragona is a stylish boxer and both boys battled toe-to-toe for three rounds. "Kieron won it in the third round because his of his cleaner, stronger punching. "The result could have gone either way so Kieron was delighted to get the decision, particularly after losing to Dragona three years ago." Neil believes that if Kieron continues to box to his true potential, then he will go on to defend his British title on April 2. "He can do it but he has to relax, stay focused and work his jabs and hooks," added Neil. Fellow Penarth ABC fighter Keiron Harding was unable to begin his first year as a senior after tearing muscles in his back. Ranked number one at middleweight, Harding was all set to fight and was looking sharp. But the injury, suffered while working as a scaffolder, put paid to his chances of taking to the ring. Coach Neil said: "He's devastated but it was obvious he couldn't compete. "I'll be looking to set up a fight with the lad who won the championships. "The next two years are very important," he added. "Keiron has got to prove he can fight at senior level before he can take the next step and earn a few bob from boxing. "He can do it, as long as he stays focused and determined."
