Burgess Meredith - Mickey Goldmill
Michael ‘Mickey’ Goldmill (April 7th, 1905 - August 15th, 1981) was a fictional boxing trainer created by Sylvester Stallone and portrayed by Burgess Meredith in the first three Rocky films (1976), (1979) and (1982), to great critical acclaim. Even though his character died in the third Rocky film, he returned briefly in the fifth film, Rocky V (1990) and again in Rocky Balboa in Rocky’s memories. Burgess’ gravelly voice brought depth to the character and added to the persona of the eternally grumpy Mickey making him an instant hit with fans. He enjoyed a brilliant career in films and was probably best known as The Joker in the original Batman movie. He also worked in theatre and television, winning several awards. Burgess Meredith suffered with Alzheimer’s disease and Melanoma and passed away on September 9th, 1997, at the age of eighty-eight. |
